Parents resist sexuality education through digital activism

South Africa has high rates of HIV infection among its young population, unintended pregnancy the youth, and extremely gender-based violence. Given all this, it is essential that people be taught skills will enable them to manage their sexuality. Schools have been shown best placed provide accurate relevant information on people's sexualities. Through Life Orientation (LO) curriculum, Department Basic Education (DBE) offers age-appropriate sexuality education as a response these concerns. However, research in shows there lack guidance preparedness by educators, this hampers how delivered African schools. A recent attempt DBE upscale strengthen curriculum schools was met with resistance from parents other lobby groups.
